Did You Know? VAWA is a self-petition to apply for a green card, regardless of gender, that won't affect your family members.

Eligibility for VAWA, one of the following:

  • Be the spouse of a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
  • Be divorced within 2 years from a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
  • Be the parent of a US Citizen over the age of 21
  • Be the child of a US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident

 

Mistreatment can take many forms, including physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, financial, and verbal mistreatment. Some examples include but are not limited to:

  • Physical – Throwing objects at you; Slamming doors; Physical assault
  • Sexual – Forcing you to have sexual relations against your will
  • Emotional – Making fun of your appearance or inability to speak English
  • Psychological – Not allowing you to leave your house, have a job, or visit with friends; Manipulation / Gaslighting
  • Financial – Taking your paycheck; Prohibiting access to credit cards or bank accounts
  • Verbal – Using bad / mean words to you; Threatening deportation or calling ICE
